Celebrating 90 years of Cleethorpes’ Royal Charter

Join us for a special afternoon celebrating Cleethorpes Charter Day, marking the granting of the town’s Royal Charter in 1936.

The doors to Cleethorpes Town Hall will open from 1.00pm, giving visitors the opportunity to explore a selection of heritage displays and exhibitions before the main event begins at 2.30pm.

The afternoon programme includes:

• A welcome to Charter Day
• An illustrated talk by local historian Dianne Roberts exploring the story behind Cleethorpes’ Royal Charter
• Musical entertainment, including performances by popular 1940s vocalist Sarah
• The premiere of Here By the Sea, I Think of Thee, a new song specially composed for Charter Day by local composer Stuart Wood
• Tea, coffee and cake

Whether you’ve lived in Cleethorpes all your life or have recently discovered our wonderful seaside town, this is an opportunity to celebrate the people, places and stories that continue to shape our community.

New Dawn Fades – A Play About Joy Division And Manchester returns with a scintillating new production touring the UK in 2026. The play tells the story of four ordinary lads who, inspired by the punk revolution of 1970s Manchester, came together to form one of the most influential bands of all time, Joy Division. Following the untimely death of lead singer Ian Curtis, the band went on to huge world-wide success as New Order.

For 2026, New Dawn Fades reunites the creative team from last year’s sell-out tour, with producers Nigel Carr and Tony Davidson. It is written by the award-winning Brian Gorman, who received much praise for his portrayal of Factory Records boss Tony Wilson. He guides the audience through the heart and soul of both the band and the city, introducing historical figures, including Roman General, Julius Agricola, Dr John Dee, Friedrich Engels, Paul Morley, and Pete Shelley of Buzzcocks! The result is a spellbinding journey of love, passion, grief, and of course music, drawing inspiration from the enigmatic lyrics of Ian Curtis, with a soundtrack featuring iconic hits of the late 1970’s UK music scene, including of course Joy Division. The play is directed by Brian Gorman and Lauren Greenwood, who reprises her role as Debbie Curtis. Josh Lonsdale reprises his role as Joy Division frontman, Ian Curtis.

A smash hit when it debuted at the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival in July 2013, New Dawn Fades has continued to wow audiences across the country, playing to capacity crowds and standing ovations.

Marc Bolan, with his band T.Rex, was one of the most flamboyant and charismatic stars of the original glam rock era.  With Bolan’s special ingredient of Rock-a-Boogie songs, the band had a string of huge hits throughout the 1970s including Get it On, Telegram Sam, Jeepster and20^th Century Boy.

One of their best loved songs, of course was I Love to Boogie, released in 1976. This year T.Rextasy will be celebrating the 50^th Anniversary of this iconic hit which will always be associated with West End Musical ‘Billy Elliot’. T.Rextasy have now been performing around the world for over 20 years, a career that ironically out lives Marc’s very own T.Rex.  The band is now accepted as the world’s only official live tribute band dedicated to Marc Bolan & T.Rex, and the only band endorsed and approved by Marc Bolan’s family, estate, original ex-members of T.Rex, and Bolan’s catalogue management.  The band has been described by many as ‘beyond the boundaries of tribute’.
